I didnt see a new member section so please move the post if in the incorrect section.

I bought a 1997 3.5 LWB auto last week and have a couple of questions.

I have previously only had double cab 4x4's all manual so was pretty easy to use off road.

This vehicle has so many buttons being an auto that i am not sure what should be used and what not.

I understand the selector lever 2wd, 4hi, 4hi with centre diff loc, and 4low with center diff loc but then when it comes to the main lever i would assume that i use gear 1 for very slow stuff and 2 for slightly faster (please correct me if incorrect)

If in 1st i assume it wont change up automatically and the same in 2nd, can i use D when in low range ?

Then there is a pwr button for normal, power and hold which as i understand power would allow the car the rev higher and hold starts the car in 2nd gear as mentioned in the manual but what combinations i would use with this is confusing.

So nobody have a Gen 2 Auto ?

You can leave the main selector in D in any gear range. That is one of the major benefits of auto 4wd.

Cant help with pwr button, dont have it in my gen3.

I have a Blister Fender 3.5 Auto
I do not use the power button much
But on uphills in power mode it will keep the vehicle in gear selected at the time.
So if you are in second it will stay in second until switched off.
You are right in hold mode it keeps to second in pull away mostly for snow conditions to prevent wheel slip on ice.
obviously you use overdrive more than any of the power, hold switch.
You can basically use your auto box as a manual as well switching to 1st second or third manually should you wish to especially in off road conditions where you sometimes need first for steep uphill's and rocky areas with LL engaged.
Be careful in LL as it gives a lot of torque and speed here is not an option. Preferably not use LL in second gear. It will reff very high as well.
keep in mind when selecting low range you have to select neutral first to engage.
Check your vacuum system if it engages correctly and listen if you can hear the pump whirring under the back seat.
4x4 lights flashing? Normal for these cars . Mine has been flashing since old times but everything works fine.
