Gen IV over GEN III?

What are the "improvements" a GEN IV has over a GEN III? Do you think it is R30 000 worth of improvements? I am have two Prados in my sights. No 1 is a 2006, one owner, FSH 194k km. No 2 is a 2007 198k km, no service history mentioned in the ad. R30k more than No. 1. Both the same colour, etc. Both GLS 3.2.
I prefer No 1, for that allows my R30k woth of goodies I can ad, for instance.

What should I do?

Hi,

Gen3 or gen4 will be based on personal taste. I would go for the Gen4, purely based on looks and the nicer interior. Mechanically though they are similar, read almost identical. As for R30k worth of extras the Pajero does not need much, I would suggest the following:

Bash plates - Stofpad plates are awesome
Suspension spacers - also stofpad
Packing system in the rear is great
Dual Battery
Inverter
Few hella points in rear and towhitch if you have a trailer
Maybe airbags if you tow

Cheers

David

The dash of the Gen 3 was designed by a blind person. It also rattles a lot. The Gen 4 shape is still current, so you should get a better resale.

get the gen4. It's common rail.

The gen3 diesels (injection pump) are presenting more and more failed pumps. The injection pumps were designed when diesel was still 5000ppm or 500ppm

The new low sulphur diesel may comply to legislation but I don't think it's healthy for the older pumps who needed lots of lube.

Yes Marius, that is exactly what I have believed for a long time. I use an expensive (now I can no longer get it directly from the owner of the business that makes it) additive in my Isuzu 250D 1996 that firstly let the water ever present in a diesel tank get dissolved in the fuel so it does not accumulate there, providing a breeding environment for a certain fungus that can block filters and fuel lines. Secondly, it enhances the lubricating property of the diesel which helps protect the pump. But diesel pumps for Pajeros (all such pumps, rather) are very expensive. So, thanks for this, it certainly helps me to make up my mind.

Stay away from the Prado and go for the Gen 4 ;)

Does the gen 4 have a diff lock?

Oh bugger! Thanks Kaiv.
I believe the Gen IV has traction control but only centre difflock. not rear.

Check. Some came out with and some without.

I personally like diff lock over traction control. TC takes a bit too long to kick in in some cases. But all depends what terrain you want to drive through.

I won't be driving grade 4 obstacles as a regular thing, know what I mean? But I do want to do 4x4 trails, especially with other guys, to develop my skills, but most of the time it would be tar and gravel roads, so maybe TC would be OK. It is of course also handy on any lose ot slippery surface, even if it is a relativly smooth and/or level road.

The real differences are looks, sound system:P and the common rail motor. There are quite a few little nice touches that make the Gen4 just a little bit more fun to drive. Me: I'd go Gen 4.
