Tyre Size
Hi
Could anyone please help with the correct tyre size for the Gen 2 2.8tdi SWB. I have 31x10.5R15 on and need to replace, is this the correct size.
Re: Tyre Size
Hi Roy, as far as I know 30x9.5 is very close or correct. I would go for the 31's though

Edit: manual sais 235/75r15

Re: Tyre Size
I'm currently running Bridgestone Dueler AT's 31x10.5R15 on my 1998 2.8tdi SWB, but the time has come to replace them.

I'm under the impressions that the imperial sizes are not that widely used as I was told over the weekend the shop does not have 31 inch tyres but they have 265 and 275's etc.

My question is would it be better to stay on the 15 inch rims or should I move up to 16 inch rims as there is more support of the metric sizes than imperial?

Re: Tyre Size
when i replaced my tires i found that the range available in 15" was limited
thus it may not be a bad idea to change to 16".
my uninformed opinion

Re: Tyre Size
I still have the original Owner's Handbook for this vehicle & the original tyre size was 235/75x15 on the GL, & GLX models. This equates to 29 inch x 9.25 in imperial speak. The GLS had 31x10.5x15 or 265/70x16 tyres.
My own (see previous posts on the subject by me - I have just done the conversion to 16 inch rims)GLX had 30x9.5x15 inch tyres when I bought it. Even these bigger than standard tyres left the car undergeared in my opinion. At 3000RPM in 5th I was pulling an indicated 110 kph, & the ground clearance (below rear diff) was limited to 180mm!
I went for 16 inch rims to accommodate 31 inch OD tyres. The original 15 inch rims were only 6J (too narrow for 9.5 inch tyres). According to the handbook the GLS had 7J rims with a 10mm offset.
