Pajero Transmission ATF

Hi,

Just wondering about the automatic transmission fluid change on the auto box for a Gen 3 or Gen 4.

I have serviced by previous Gen 3 and now my Gen 4 at Mitsubishi dealerships, which included several gearbox oil changes.

So the correct OEM fluid was always used, but what is interesting is that they don't really do a full oil change - they just seem to remove 4L and add 4L. The full capacity is over 9L.

On my invoices, they just list part no. ZL4024610 which is for 4L of Dia Queen ATF.

Anyone else experienced the same?

I wonder what the exact service schedule that the dealers have actually says. The service schedule that I have (in the manual) indicates: Automatic Transmission oil - "R" = Replace, every 60 000km.

So adding 4L of new oil isn't really replacing! The workshop manual also shows a complete flush.

Cheers,
Greg

Thanks Marius :)

Maybe I wasn't clear in my previous post... I know about the full fluid change - that is the only A/T fluid change method that is described in the workshop manual.

What I am concerned about is whether the dealership workshops are meant to do this full fluid change (as your post describes, and in the workshop manual).

Anyone know how much ATF will run out in you just remove the drain plug? Only 4L? Or more?

Cheers
Greg

I did a fluid and filter change on my Gen 2 3.5 V6. No flush as the fluid didn't look bad.
It took 6L. Sparky at Mitsu didn't say anything when I ordered one can (4L) of Dia Queen (that I needed 6L) and the filter (that I needed a gasket). 3 weeks later I was just a bit annoyed, but luckily they had ordered 2 cans so they still had one in stock. I'm now sitting with 2L left over (let me know if you need).

If I were you I'd check that your ATF level is correct. I hope that your dealer hasn't flushed the box and only filled it with 4L... And I don't think there can be 2L left in the oil pan after al the fluid has come out of the drain plug.

Mine definitely dropped 4L and then took 4L again. My indi had 2 x 4L available and then returned the unused container to the dealer.

My thinking at present is that the last service on my car, before I hopefully retire, will be at 150k. The plan is to carry out a 180k service including water pump and tranny filter and full flush.
