Hi all,

I know all what I'm asking would have been covered in earlier posts, but considering the relative lack of activity on the forum I'm sure you'll indulge me.

I'm looking to replace my trusty Gen 3 V6 with an earliesh Gen 4 Di-Dc. The car I have in mind is a private sale from someone I know reasonably well. Its a 2009 LWB GLS with 150 000km, FSH, accident free, two-owner car.

So on to the Q's:

- service history is full franchise at 10 000km intervals. I thought these were 15000km with oil and filter at 7500km. Is this a problem?

- what is fair market (private) value for an honest, clean but not detailed car like this? What would he be offered as a trade?

- it comes with a couple of nice extras like seat covers, dual battery, bash plates, suspension spacers and air helpers. These sure add value but I'm pretty sure it wont add to trade price. Still I don't want to rip him, so what would the realistic price extra be over and above the standard car?

I know these are quite vague questions, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what he would get on trade but I have seen similar year and mileage for sale between 240000 to 299000 for the GLS model, which is wide but that is what is on offer out there. He would probably get MAX R210000 or there abouts on trade I would guess.

I agree. Services should have been 7500 as far as I know, but I am not sure

Normally Trade is the Maximum you will get for a clean low mileage car. And the Retail is what the dealers sell it for. Again just a guideline as they want to make profit on both sides of the deal Trade in and resale. But this does give you a broad indication of the values.

Yip 10 000km service interval is correct.

Ask your insurance broker.

Every-time I look at a new vehicle ito what the premium would cost me, my broker sends me a print screen, as car will be insured for retail value.
Exsample, I'm currently looking to by a 2008 Di-D LWB GLX in very nice condition. Granted, it is standard, so it makes my job easier.

Dealer wants R199,000 for it, but my print screen shows values as follows:
Market Value: R173,100
Retail Value: R183,800
Trade value: R162,400
Trade value is just that, what you would get for trading it in, ie what the dealer will buy at, retail is what he would sell at, and Market value (actual value, is the average of those two) SO, dealer wants to sell at R199,000, and although I know I'll never be able to buy for R173,000, I should be able to put in an offer for a little over Retail Value. But only because his price is much higher.

Not quite sure how you could check if you dont have an insurance broker, but its just (for me) another bonus of having one.

I've just written off my Gen 3 3.8 SWB, but now since we FINALLY have a little one on the way, I need a LWB again.
