Do not let people tell you your Diesel pump is stuffed !
There is a money making vibe as far as Diesel pumps and injectors go on Pajeros, if someone tells you your Diesel pump is stuffed or your injectors are stuffed there is a 99% chance he does not have a clue what he is talking about and is trying to take you for a ride ! FACT !

After my car started dying and spluttering and rev counter jumping up and down, and idling uneaven, revs just climbing and and and, I assumed petrol in diesel, this never happened, there was never petrol in my diesel, went and confirmed with footage and slip recalls, so after everyone everywhere kept saying it MUST be your diesel pump or your injectors and wanting R1800 to put it on a dyno just to start with, before anything else has been done and R650 fault computer at Mitsubishi and and and and and......I would like to just say YOU can all go and F#$K yourselves !..... People just don't care anymore, everyone just want to screw each other over and take your money.....im disappointed that this forum could not be of more help, i can not believe that no one has ever has the same symptoms as me, but even so, i got one or two reply's wishing me luck!...really?....

ANYWAY......The fault on my car was ONE SINGLE WIRE !......everything that I mentioned and explained and all the fault codes and and and and....was one f@#king wire........I can only imagine how many people have had the same problem and have had their diesel pumps redone or apparently redone and injectors apparently replaced only to have had a single wire or a few replaced because of a short or no contact. This wire was still slightly making contact but also on the body and shorting and it caused major malfunctions, I just happen to play around with that plug over the weekend while STILL driving my car and breaking down and standing nexto the highway, because i refused to believe its the diesel pump or injectors, moved the plug a bit and she ran fine till it bumped or moved or whatever, then same problem...so this morning moved the battery and checked the plugs, and the wire just broke off, so it was just just hanging on for dear life....fixed it, joined it....ans she runs without skipping a beat !!!!....the frustration the last few weeks has been ridiculous!....I hope this post helps someone who finds or will find them self in this situation !

Re: Do not let people tell you your Diesel pump is stuffed !
Desmond, thanks for clearing this up.

I think it is harsh to blame us for not solving your problem. You reported petrol in your diesel, but symptoms that couldn't be related to that problem.

If you had accurately reported the symptoms and not blamed it on petrol, then more than a few of us would have recommended that you search for a lose connection.

In defence of the pump and injector workshops, they believed that petrol went through your pump and injectors, BUT wanted to do tests. Same for Mitsu, they also wanted to do tests. Sure, those guys wanted money for the tests, but they are running a business.

To use evidence that they wanted money to run tests and then to jump to the conclusion that they steal money everytime they find fault with a pump or injectors is not cool and most probably opens you up for nice big libel suits.

Thanks for sharing the tip. I wanted to give you a thumbs up for saying thank you, but also a thumbs down for the :) #@$#% :) attitude in which it was delivered.

I truly feel your frustration but you must be OVERJOYED more than the frustration after all this that your fault turned out to be something so silly - Chill Man. It does seem like you have had a unique problem though as I don't think that little wire could fix or have caused my stuffed diesel pump and subsequent hole in piston, they were pretty real and proper stuffed - believe me.

Super glad you traced and shared the issue. Now go out there and treat yourself to something for your efforts!

Re: Do not let people tell you your Diesel pump is stuffed !
I originally posted a thread about the symptoms without including the petrol in diesel probability FYI....in the Engines thread, and the advice was to check the Error Codes, which i did, and then posted on the technical library where i found it, asking some advice, and still NO response, it was only after that, that my brother said it was possibly petrol put in......before i even mentioned petrol in the diesel EVERYONE that i spoke to said Ahhhh, that sounds like diesel pump or your should have your injectors checked....its sounds like that's the common goto answer when you have NO IDEA what you are talking about, I spoke to ONE guy, the previous owner, about the symptoms and he immediately put me onto an electrical fault and NOT mechanical, why was PAJERO and the other mechanics or workshops not able to do the same? Explain that please, I would love know. Because people take advantage, and also don't go the extra mile to help you and truly listen and understand your problems, they go through the motions, let you spend money eliminating obvious problems that had NOTHING to do with the problem had they just listened and applied their knowledge ! We are all just numbers and rands guys, and like I said people just don't care enough to be the exception anymore.

@Desmond,

Thank you for posting this valuable information.
I am sure you must be incredibly relieved at the outcome - although clearly not the process.

People help each other on this forum (like the technical content in your first post above). The more you help, the more you get help - paying it forward.

You refer to your other thread. I presume you are referring this one: https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6303?

In that you were recommended to get fault codes - but you never came back and posted them for members to follow up and now you castigate us for not helping more! Maybe take a deep breath and ponder on that a while.

Many of the old hands here really do enjoy helping - but it takes two to tango.

For continuity (imagine someone reading one of these two threads in a year's time) and for value to future readers it would probably be helpful to include the original problem posts and the resolution posts in one thread, rather than across multiple threads.

I wish you many more happy kms in your Pajero and look forward to your future contributions on this forum.

Please do not believe everything you read or hear about on forums. Just like Wikipedia, its a bunch of guys and galls posting their thoughts, experiences and knowledge on certain matters. It does NOT mean that because we are on a certain forum, that we are now experts.
'Definition of an expert' => Ex is a "has been" and a spurt is a "drip under pressure".........

Do you know that Wikipedia (which I think is a great website) may NOT be used by students writing their doctorates...... Its because what is expressed on the web, is just that, peoples expression and feelings.

I think your response is a bit harsh.

Re: Do not let people tell you your Diesel pump is stuffed !
My anger was directed at the agents and the workshops, I was only disappointed this forum could not elevate some of the stress along the way. I apologies if that was not clear. The " go F@#k yourself statement was directed at the agents and workshops not at this forum.

My harshness was directly proportionate to the levels of stress i experienced.

but never the less, sorry! :x
Re: Do not let people tell you your Diesel pump is stuffed !
Hi Desmond. I am absolutely sure if someone on the forum had or even knew of a similar experience, they would have shared it with you. We are all learning as we go, and share gladly when possible. Symptoms you describe could be anything from a faulty sensor to a dud pump, it is very far from a 'cut and dried' operation to troubleshoot these pumps when they start giving issues.

Read my thread on my burnt out injector pump... Even the only 2 extremely specialised workshops who can overhaul the VRZ pumps were stumped (and still are) but members of the forum still helped where they could. I am now exactly one month in to my saga and hopefully the end is in sight after much frustration and many late nights researching the problem. We still don't know for certain what exactly went wrong.

I don't even own a pajero anymore but still try and help where I can.

Nobody gets paid to be here. We do it out of charity. Appreciation of that will go a long way.

Glad you got it sorted.

Re: Do not let people tell you your Diesel pump is stuffed !
I hear where Desmond is coming from. "Mechanics" tend to want to jump to conclusions and start with worst case instead of starting with best case because there is more money into a worst case scenario. I say "mechanics" because 90% of the people who work on our cars have no clue which side is the handle on a screwdriver. Its all because EVERYTHING has become substandard and its now just become a job and not a profession. Walk into any workshop and see who changes your oil, an appy gets left with those jobs and the person who should know what he is doing doesn't even bother to check that the appy tightened the sump plug or put the filler cap on properly let alone checking that the right oil was put into your engine.

Glad your problem is solved though
