3.2 SWB tyres

Good Evening,
I have BF Goodrich A/T 260/75/16 tyres on at present & wish to change because of road noise & harshness of ride.
Am considering Michelin 260/70/16 or 260/75/16 as replacements.
Absolutely wonderful service from the BF's but am tired of the ride characteristics & want a quieter smoother ride. Have not been in the real rough for years & occasionally travel gravel roads.
Do you have any recommendations or comments?
Regards,
Kelly

Tyres are such a subjective topic. Everyone has an opinion because they are all so evenly matched. Begin with your budget, then look at the main brands and work from there. They are all good especially if you don't go far offroad. Brands like Michelin, Hankook, Pirelli, Continental, General, Cooper, Goodyear, Yokohama all make great tyres but the price can vary. Go with what you like would be my advice.

Kelly,

I have had fantastic service out of my Michelins, they give a very good ride as well as excellent grip on tar in the wet. They have taken me through Baviaans, Sani, Lesotho, Cederberg, Gamkaskloof, Tankwa Karoo & thousands of Km of sceinic gravel roads throughout the Western & Eastern Cape mainly with most of it towing my trailer. I have yet to have a puncture & currently have 92000km on them & they still have good tread left. I have kept my speed down though both on & off road & believe this has helped. I got less than 50000km Bridgestones & Yokohamas before that. Bridgestones gave a good ride but too many punctures & Yokohamas gave a much firmer ride, but were not very good in the wet.

Cheers, Kevin (2005 3.2 DID GLS)

Thanks Kevin, unless there is anything else with equal or better performance (which would be awesome), the Michelins seem to be an automatic choice that Kelly could follow - but I understand the new BFG's are much improved, although only time will tell how they compare.

Thanks for the feedback Kevin.
Did you use 70 or 75 profiles and are you happy with road noise & harshness?

Kelly

Which Michelin model are you guys specifically referring to here? AT tyres?

Also need to do tyres one of these days so are following these threads with interest.

I would assume the Michelin LTX AT2?

Merry Christmas everybody.
Further to my query in June, I fitted Michelin LTX A/T2 tyres (70 profile) in August.
Have just completed the first longish run, to the Fouriesburg mountains, I can only say that I am delighted with these tyres. There is no road noise to speak of & the harshness has reduced dramatically on poor surfaces.
Well worth the premature removal of the BFG,s.
I will consider them a gift from Fr Xmas.
Best Regards & happy travelling in 2016

I'm also leaning towards the Michelins if finances allow. They just seem to be properly engineered for the use I need from them.
