Hi all

My 2006Gen 3 developed a hole in its no.1 piston last December and it got a heart transplant. Which has just added more problems.

The "new" engine is as slow as a Caterpillar but it doesn't make noise or smoke and idles smoothly.

The latest theory is that the "new" engine is not compatible with my paj's engine ECU and other electronics because its engine number is 4M41GT... whereas the original engine is 4M41HC.... My mechanic thinks that the "new" engine may have come from a grey import.

My question is, do all legitimate southern african Gen 3's have the HC engine number, or are there some with other letters after the 4M41???

My gen 3 Pajero's engine number was 4m41DN..... So I dont think your mechanic is correct.

Maybe it needs some timing adjustment or something?

I can see mine clearly now with all my bits removed, it is 4m41GT engine number. 2005 model.

As far as I know only ecu controlled bit is the injector pump, the rest is sensors and actuators. What did you keep/transplant from your old motor to your current one?

Nothing of the old engine was transplanted. The new unit was installed with its own ancillaries.

Mmm. If I look at the numbers given the part after the 41 bit more relate to the age maybe and is probably just part of a serial number.

My 2001 model -DN
Nick 2005 model GT
Airborne 2006 model HC
Replacement engine GT.

Which tells me the replacement engine might be from a 2005 or thereabout vehicle.

Injector pump timing has been checked numerous times by different people. The pump has also been refurbished and even a completely different pump was also installed, with no change in the outcome.

What happened to the pump off your old engine? Is it maybe not worth while to put all your old engine bits onto the new engine and just use the block?

The old engine's pump was also tried on the current engine. It made no difference!

Have you checked for any possible fault codes on the setup as running currently?
