Hi fellow Pajero owners,
My name is Tiago and I’m from Portugal and living in Mozambique.
I want to congratulate this community for all the info shared about the Pajero world.
I bought an 1999/2000 automatic (btw it's only have 4 speed) Mitsubishi Pajero 3.2 Di imported from Japan. It was the car that I always loved since I was little boy and my dream come true.
But then the nightmares start coming a few months later after my purchase.
At first the car ECL came on, the engine start making a roughly sound and when you push the throttle it works like it hasn’t any sensitive (if you touch slightly in the throttle, it would accelerate harshly and then at about 50klm/h it starts to be very difficult to get more speed, even if you push more in the throttle).
I’ve made a diagnose and it return an error in acceleration sensor in the pump and in the throttle. My mechanic said I shouldn’t worry.
I was in journey to Kruger park when suddenly a small cover from the fuel pump was ripped off while I was running.
i was advised that the fuel pump should be fully reconstructed. Short story I send it to Poland to be repaired at Dieseltechnika and 8 months later, I have the pump ready to be installed in my beloved Pajero.
When it was installed and supposedly (supposedly because I find out that my mechanic it wasn’t a trustily person) with new injectors.
In my first long trip on my first stop I notice that engine was working like it was unbalanced (like it was working only with 3 cylinders but you only notice that if you were stopped or in very low speed). But if I stopped the car for one night, the next day, if I drive at low speed and if I don’t run a long distance, it would work properly. Then I notice that I have a fuel leaking. At that point I continued my trip and after 400 klm the rev start have small breaks (like if I was at 3000 rpm he would drop to 2900 and instantly rise to the 3000) for about some klm (this never happened again). After some klm, every time the shift change the rev would increase more than the rotation needed to be at the next shift.
After that I repaired the leak (and supposedly my new mechanic said that the symptoms were normal in case of leaking) and I thought everything should be fine.
For my first test I was running in a open road at 80 klm/h and suddenly I take the throttle to the bottom and the transfer case was like it was shifting the gear but then the ECL come on the engine was shut down. I restarted the engine and everything was looking ok, except that a few klm later once again when you stopped or in very low speed, I start notice that the engine was unbalanced and every time the shift change the rev would increase more than the rotation needed to be at the next shift.
Now my mechanic says that is the fuel pump sensors that aren’t working properly and advised me to change it.
I don’t know what to do and at this stage I start to become very frustrated and despaired (specially I have a trip scheduled for the last week of December in Tofo) and I’m starting to think in sell it (but the engine is working so well in terms of power).
Can you please help me?
Any advise.
Sorry for the long post but I didn’t want to lose a symptom
Regards,
TLC
