Difference between econo and A/C?

I have searched but found no answer in the user manual or the workshop manual.

What is the difference between econo and A/C on the aircon? I see some other vehicles use it as well.

According to the owners handbook:

Econo is used when humidity is low. A/C compressor operates only when necessary.

A/C is used when humidity is high or when it is very hot. A/C compressor operates continuously.

Hope this helps. ;)

thanks but....

I think I should have made myself clearer. sorry.

I got that part in the manual but I would like to know the mechanism behind this.

I know that the A/C works less in econo mode but afaik the A/C in monteros cycle on and off in full a/c mode as well, otherwise the evap would freeze up.

does the econo mode use a higher temp sensor or a different thermo coupler?

sorry for the confusion. I'm just like that - I'm not satisfied with turning the key and it starts - I want to know the mechanisms.

Marius

Mine does not cycle on A/C mode, but it does cycle in Econo.

I've never had it freeze up but I've had a moerovalot of water pouring out from underneath. I've read somewhere that the A/C has some mechanism to prevent freezing, but I can't recall where.

well. I'm getting the pajero back tomorrow so will see how it goes. I have hooked up a fan to run only when the compressor clutch engages so it should be easy to see what the a/c system does on the 2 settings.

As part of the fix ( blockage discovered - probably expansion valve ), I'm having the rear evap deleted as my center console board is fried.

Bloody expensive ( this r12 system ) when you can't work on stuff yourself. : :(

this forum website is confsusing.
lets see if this reply goes ANYWHERE!

if you set your ac too economy; and heating; then cooling does not kick in until set point is achieved.

It sems as though the economy setting has a higher temp switch, on the evap, to cut the a/c.

checked some numbers today

on econo it switches - 14 seconds on and 5 seconds off. Interior temp was about 14 degrees celsius. Fan on full and recirculate.

On full a/c it was idling for 3 minutes without switching off - i didn't wait longer as I don't like idling that long.

It doesn't switch on the a/c when I switch to defrosting windows. - I didn't see any plug at the back of that turn knob, so it doesn't have that function. Should be easy to wire it in if you want it.
