ABS hydraulic pump failure 2400 Pajero 3.2 diesel

My 2400 SWB Pajero 3.2 diesel (bought new) gave me 250 000 km of trouble free driving. Most of these km's were done on bad roads in Africa with a roof top tent and towing my caravan in the RSA. I literally only serviced the car - no repair of any kind up to now.

Recently my ABS (and stability / traction control warning lights) stayed on when starting the car but disappeared after switching off and on. Lately the warning lights stay on and I took the car to Mitsubishi to check and repair. Their computers indicated a faulty ABS vacuum pump that needs replacement at a ridiculous cost (the work would cost me almost half of what I can get if I would sell the car!). I think I am being taken for a ride!

I am now trying to find a cheaper deal or workshop that can repair or service the pump or replace it at a more reasonable price. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction, please.

Thanks
Hannes Smith

Hannes. Is the alarm sounding and does the brakes work? About 2 months ago my 2006 swb alarm sounded and 200m later the brakes was hard, turned out to be the abs booster pump motor. It is under the pump, I hit it with a screwdriver and it started working for a day, then same thing happened. Mitspro fixed it for a reasonable price. If you switch he car on after its been standing and you hear the motor for +-30 seconds, its not the motor and you have to look somwere else.

Hannes my 2006 lwb did the same and the dealers quote me R26000 for the repair. Motobishi Center in George took the pump apart and had the armature repaired and replaced the brushes for under R2000 labor included.

Sorry for replying only now. Problem with computer and internet. Thank you Pieter Geldenhuys and bundu1 for your input. I am glad to report that my problem appears to be resolved.
After the event while driving with the "faulty" hydraulic pump, I was told by someone driving behind me that my brake lights were not working. At home I checked the fuses and found the stop light 15 amp fuse to be the problem. I could not believe it but on the replacing the fuse, the ABS and traction control lights remained off. I took the car to a local workshop who checked the system on the computer and found that all was well. No problem with the hydraulic pump.

I was originally quoted by the dealer R37 000 for a new pump with total cost R44 000!!
