From 5 doors to 3.....

So I came to the conclusion that having two 5 door SUVs seems to be a waste of space. My wife has a Nissan Qashqai and I have the LWB Paj, 2008 with 242,000km on at the moment. I've had the Pajero for just under 4 years and have loved every second of ownership, will very little to complain about driving a total of 63,000km in that time.

I had a look at various options, I even considered following Roelf to the dark side of bakkie ownership but every time I considered another vehicle I just couldn't get myself to even test drive one because I know how awesome the Pajero is. I considered the Chev Trailblazer (good power for towing), the KB6, Amarok and a newer GLX LWB Paj.

At the end of the day I decided I'm going with a SWB Pajero for the added off-road ability (I like doing trails). Space wise it will be a big change but we have an off-road trailer that takes all our gear when we go camping and with or kids being young we won't be going on any overland trips in the next few years. And besides, the Paj is my daily drive so a smaller version fits the bill perfectly. I went to Mitsu Sandton and found they had a white 2014 with Rear Difflock, a little above my budget but after the test drive I couldn't say no.

My finance has been approved and I will probably collect on Thursday or Friday this week..... Pics to follow

Congrats with the shrunken Pajero!!!. Looking forward to the pics.

Would be interesting to hear your comments from the 121kw to 140kw 4m41 motor. I think you will like, especially with that smaller, dare I say sexier, body!

Have mine for 3 years now. You are going to be over the moon.

Cats, you may say sexy. It is true.

Kurt, great stuff. Following our chats, I know you have considered the right options in your 2 door decision. The wife and I still maintain our's was the nicest one of all our Pajeros. But we had the 3.8V6 - that thing was like a GTi Golf.

PS. Now you have no choice, we must go and test it in the Barberton mountains.

Thanks Roelf and Cats, I'm sure I will love it. I will miss the space but there are always solutions for those times I need it. I'm getting excited now

Kurt well done on your choice and the very best of luck with it. I sometimes wonder if I should not have bitten the bullet and gone for the new motor but the price difference was very large.
On the issue of space we own our 3rd SWB. Before we had an offroad trailer we would remove the rear seats for long trips. You cannot believe the packing space it provides.

Thanks Peter, appreciate the reply. The only problem I foresee with removing the rear seats is where do my two rugrats sit or do I pack them in the trailer? :D

Ha ha ha, no worries. I've got a 6foot Venter for non 4x4 trips if need be (and the Qashqai of course) and a Metalian for proper off-roading so I'm all good for boot space.
