Shifting on the fly

Specifically on the CK Pajero Gen 3. AUTO

The super select system states that you can shift on the fly for 2H to 4H up to speeds of 100KMH

There is a sticker inside the car that states the car must be in neutral when shifting gears in 4x4 mode.

I don't get it, what am I missing here.

Since getting the car I have been going from 2H to 4H without incident while the car is in Drive. Does the neutral only apply to 4Hlc and 4Llc and when the car is stopped ?

Keep me right here please.

Stranger,

The stationary requirement is for when you go from 4HLC to 4LlLC only. In high range you can play and shift as much as you like BUT be careful when going from 4H to 4HLC on tarred / cement roads. You should then only be driving on a straight road. It is good practice to shift from 2H to 4HLC once per day when you take your Pajero out for a trip.

Hi Stranger,
Correct and what Cloyd said.
Even my manual plaasbakkie requires stopped and neutral to swap ratios.

Thanks, so neutral only applies when going to 4Llc.

I am still old school. I will use 4 wheel drive for the sake of the road, not my ego. :D

I use 4wd purely for my ego.
Nothing is more ego busting than having to beg for a recovery.

Note: Shifting on the fly stops working if the wear between tyres differ too much.
