Please can someone help I have a 2005 Pajero DID Glx 210000km and have had a knocking noise coming from the "suspension"

I took the vehicle to an ecar for s major service and just spent 14000 on the service some electrical problems as well as some brake issues.

The report from ecar regarding the knocking noise is as per below report.

"The various knocking noises (front and rear) are also all related to age and wear and tear. The rear differential carrier arms and bushes are all worn and cracked, these all need to be replaced, however the agent parts are very expensive, so we would need to strip all of these parts out for samples to try and source them as aftermarket spares, this is an extremely labour intensive job as the entire rear diff, prop-shaft and rear drive shafts, rear springs and the shocks all need to be removed in order to access these parts.

The front upper control arms we can see were replaced fairly recently and the shock absorbers all round are still OK (no leaks). However the front lower control arms and the stabilizer links with the torsion bar rubbers and all the mountings (engine & gearbox) must all be replaced, again we will need to strip all this out before we can quote"

The problem I have is does anybody know of an estimate in the costing as well as if there are aftermarket parts that are cheaper. I need to get this fixed but have no idea what it will cost as per ecar.

Please any advise will be highly appreciated.

I would take the car to one of the independant roadwothy centres. They have a machine where you put the vehicle on the pit and then get underneath while the machine pushes and pulls the suspension in all directions. You can quite easily see if any bushes are worn. The roadworthy costs R400. So if they charge you it cannot be more than that.

Thank you Peter, I also want to know if these are common problems with the mileage etc. I will definitely take it to a roadworthy centre and have them check this out. Has anyone had problems with bushes and mountings etc?

Hi Syn, I went through this a week or so ago. I had to replace the bushes on the rear trailing arm ( I think?) and the other ones on the inside of the hub. My local agents had no spares as it was ex Japan, so are CV boot rubbers by the way too I was told. Luckily found a local company who made new ones and recast the some in-situ.

I still need to do the two diff mounting ones and the right hand side when I can have the car standing for a day or two, it is a big job as the whole rear suspension gets stripped.
