We lived in Malawi for 7 years and bought a 1993 2.5 diesel pajero in Malawi. However we now want to import this vehicle to SA -have any of the members had any experience in these matters?

Good Day

I imported a vehicle from the UK a few Years ago and if I remember correctly you can bring One vehicle in duty free if that vehicle was Registered in your name in the country of origin for at least Three Years prior to exporting it to SA.

Also you cannot sell the vehicle here in SA for Three Years from date of importation. Apart from that it is quite straightforward and somewhat time consuming process. You need to first obtain a Import Permit from SARS and also get a LOA from SABS stating that the vehicle conforms to the South African requirements for passenger vehicles etc.

I recently imported a vehicle from Japan http://www.jinjidosha.com/ the best thing I most like that I received my car in a good condition and it is same as it is as they describe in our discussion. So I had a great experience with the Jinjidosha and you can also expect better option in order to deal to deal with them.
