My towbar's 4 bolts (or the nuts welded on the inside of the body/frame) seemed to have taken a beating over the years.

*I unintentionally moved a gentleman's GTi Golf a meter or so forward into a pole, when I reversed into the back of his precious VW. GTi had damage front and back, but the Pajero had none.

*I also went through a few low/steep crossings where the towbar hit some rocks/ground.

Problem is now how to repair those four nuts that is welded on the inside of the frame. They are stripped but some of the bolts are busy tearing out of the frame from the inside.

Anybody had a similar problem? Any suggestions please?

A panelbeater will weld in a new plate with nut welded on the inside. Might just make it difficult to mount a std towbar after that.

I would also advise to get a new towbar that utilise at least 6, preferably 8(ie 4 per side) bolts in total and not the 4 as you have as this will help spread the load better.

If I can gain access to the inside of that frame/tube, I can repair the damage myself I reckon. However, I am not sure if I can gain access from the back - will probably have to remove the back bumper to see.

I agree on the 6 and even 8 bolt options. It is easy enough to weld a gusset plate on the side to make provision for the horizontal bolts - I see there are bolt holes already.

So - any idea if it is possible to access the inside of the frame from the back, after taking of the bumper? This is the biggest hurdle. Dont want to waste time and effort taking off the bumper if access is not possible.

If no comment here from anyone find a stripped vehicle at a scrap yard and have a look there.

I dont think there is access but removing the rear bumper is quite easy.

Mine also go damaged not quite as bad the bolts were still there just cracked arround them.But local panelbeayer welded a pice of metal over them to reunforce them.

On mine it does mean that the horisontal bolts nolonger fits
