Pajero Owners Club of South Africa

I have a 3.8 non MiVEC Pajero and would appreciated if someone on the forum can shed some light on a sensor of sorts which I cannot figure out what it's for. It looks like a throttle position sensors that's mounted on the air cleaner (where it obviously cannot operate as a throttle position sensor). The only other option that I can think of is that this sensor is set to specif resistance value that it gives through to the engine management system. Below some pictures of the sensor and the mounting position. I would very much like to know what the function of this sensor is and what the resistance value should be. Unfortunately it would seem that not all Pajero's through out the world where equipped with this.
