Electrical Cut Out - 96 3.5 GLS - FYI

I have owned a 1996 3.5 GLS LWB (no idea which generation this is) for about 3 years. About a year or so ago it mysteriously cut out whilst my son was using it, and he had to be towed back home. It ended at the local auto electrician who determined that a main fuse had blown, but could not find the reason why. Once the fuse was replaced it functioned normally. I pondered this for a while and eventually looked at the end of the accelerator pedal, (past the pivot and behind the panel) where there is a large flat pad. On inspection of the wiring loom which was close by, I noticed bare wires which had been rubbed away by the pad on the acelerator pedal when it was depressed to its maximum. (The pad trapped the wiring against the inside of the panel.) Once these were taped up, and loom held away from the acclerator pedal pad, the problem was cured.
