Hello

i have my gearbox reconed 60Ks ago in PE, that was in 2016, so i do not do a lot of mileage.

The gearbox went again over the weekend, i do not 4x4, i tow a small boat every couple of months and when i do i sit around 80 - 90KMH

what would have caused this box to go again, are they really this unreliable?

Thanks
Mark

That is a bit of a sweeping statement. It all depends on what was wrong with the original box and what was done to "fix" it.
My Gen 2 did 600.000 plus, till it was,er, liberated. If you keep to the recommended service intervals, you normally are able to "pick up" problems. 45 years of driving both auto and manual gearboxes, I have never had any failures, clutches, sure, auto, never, but was always able to drag it home. My shorty has only done 147.000, I bought it in January 2020 and now has 155.000. The first thing I did was to to change the body fluids, twice within 7500 km and the engine three times. Oil and regular changes are cheaper than an overhaul. sure it is a bit excessive, but that bus of mine purrs like a kitten. Only problem is it drinks like Oliver Reed, for a younger generation look him up. Last of the "hard" generation.

What exactly was wrong with said box ?. Normally you get some sort of warning before it lets go. You have to obsessively, clinically clean, with stripping auto boxes and pressure testing said unit after. I hope you get it sorted out and pronto, Holidays are coming up as I have found with accommodation at the coast. Looks like all of Dodge is leaving for the coast.

Overheating box doesn't die instantly like that. On top of that the ATF light will come on if the ATF is too hot.

disconnect the multifunction switch
disconnect the ecu or pull the fuses for the gearbox

the box should then mechanically default to N,R,3rd (D)

If it drives fine then (albeit Drive will only give you 3rd gear), then your issue is electrical.
