1999 Pajero 1800 IO starter not working.

Sun Mar 27, 2011 8:38 am

Once again I am looking for help please. It seems that my IO gives me trouble once a year.

Two days ago I wanted to start the vehicle and no response from the starter solenoid. All lights came on as usual but nothing happened. Now the car had been fine the day before and decided to give up the ghost overnight. As the car was standing under my carport which has a dirt floor I decided to check out everything on top before venturing underneath. Battery and all else including the ignition switch checked out fine. Jacked the car up and went underneath to check the press on connector on the starter solenoid as I have had a problem with this item on a couple of older cars that I have owned. It took me a while to find the starter motor hidden away behind a bracket which supports the intake manifold. After removing this bracket I found the terminal on the solenoid and worked the connector a couple of times but still no success. I put a multi meter across this connector and operated the ignition key and found it registering 12v. The starter motor and solenoid have to be checked out.

How do I remove the starter motor without pulling the motor, do I have to remove the intake manifold or what.
Please help.

Regards,
Terrence
