Ive decided my next project is to replace and upgrade my cars sound. I will be posting pics during my project.
I have to decide between the following 2 radios:
Audiobank AB-S300/BT R3200
JVC KW-V20BT R3600
I will have to make a decision between the two when I get to the shop to install it.
During the upgrade i will be installing an amplifier to run the speakers on, because the speakers will be my next upgrade after the radio as well as the tweeters and then a small subwoofer to top it all off.

Re: Gen 3 Radio and Sound system upgrade
Why those models? have you checked World of Electronics?
They got great prices.
Buy a set of splits so you don´t have to buy speakers and tweeters separately. as for the sub i would advise a single 12" JBL GT4/CS1204 or a GT5 as it doesnt require a big box and can pound like a mofo. There are other options like Cervwin Vega, Hertz, etc. Cehck autostyle website. Please stay clear of xtc, starsound, targa, icepower and the other "local" stuff. Their top stuff is decent, the entry level is crap.
Invest once for life. Buy a 4channel amp that gives at least 250 wrms on the bridge channel so you are safe.

Re: Gen 3 Radio and Sound system upgrade
Tomorrow I will be doing the subwoofer installation on the rear door. Today I spent most of my time getting all the wires to be neatly tucked away and getting the subwoofers cable from the amp all the way to the back through the side panels making sure it all looks neat and tidy.

Re: Gen 3 Radio and Sound system upgrade
Dr3am3r I decided on the JVC because it was the best bang for buck I could get and as for the amplifier and subwoofer, it came off my previous vehicle. I went with Pioneer 230w midrange speakers to fit in the doors. I will buy proper tweaters on a later stage as my budget didnt allow a split system.dr3am3r wrote:Why those models? have you checked World of Electronics?

Re: Gen 3 Radio and Sound system upgrade
Completed the last bit of my project today. Photos attached showing how I fitted the subwoofer box and how I strengthened the rear door cover to ensure it wont get any damage from weight.

Interesting place to mount the sub.
Thanks for sharing the build.

Re: Gen 3 Radio and Sound system upgrade
Hi Jaco
I enjoyed your post. Want to do something similar, however I want a double din touch screen that has GPS as well. Unfortunately the cost is skyhigh, especially if you consider the Big Brands, Kenwood, Pioneer etc.
What would you recommend that is more bang for buck? My requirements are:
- RDS radio
- Bluetooth functionality for Ipod/Iphone
- USB
- GPS maps
- nice to have - dashcam connector
