Good day fellow Mitsubishi lovers.
My 2000 blister fender 3500 V6 developed a problem today on my way home from work. About 10 min into my journey she started coughing and spluttering with the engine light on. I did manage to get home and packed the car away. A couple of hours later I started her again where she fired straight up sounding normal. After a few minutes as the temp gauge starts moving she started coughing and spluttering then about 30 seconds later the engine management light comes on and the misfiring gets a lot worse. Any advise?
The spark plugs have done about 3000km, I am leaning more towards a air flow meter problem, but how I could I diagnose the problem? Any advice ideas would be appreciated.

This is not the GDi engine, right?
On my 97 Paj, I had similar issues with coil packs wiring. Since you changed the spark plugs recently, I'd lean towards this.
Either a loose or damaged plug lead, or the thin wires from the ECU to the coil packs. The insulation becomes brittle with age, and when things heat up, you could end up with a partially broken wire or connection that doesn't contact anymore.
On my older car the engine light never came on though.
There are only 2 misfire sources on a petrol engine, fuel or spark, air only influencing fuelling parameters really. If it's not the sparks, it's the fuel, or a combination of both.

Thanks for the response.
My mechanic has determined it's the crank shaft sensor. The agents are the only people who have this part (so far) at a heavy price (R2500). I will look this week to see if I can find one somewhere else and hopefully at a better rate.
