Early(2007-09) Gen4 cruising performance & fuel consumption

Recently had remap done at Mitsitech. He also said I need to replace MAF sensor. Feels more powerfull but will see how the torque is once I get a chance to go camping and tow my Xplorer.

Howzit Cats. So you went for it did you?
Would you mid posting those before and after kw and torque figures. I cannot see them too clearly. I know there is about 20% loss between the flywheel and wheels and interested in the claimed kw output compared to what he saw before the remap.
Edit: See someone already asked. Wow that is a whole lot less at the wheels before the remap than I was expecting.

Does Arnold give an option about "how far " you want to go ? eg economy remap / torque towing remap? Or is it a case of one remap for all 3.2 DID's?n

Just for completeness I will post the figures here as well

This is measured at the wheels
Before
Power 70,9 kw
Torque 231.2 Nm

After
Power 93,1kw
Torque 296,4 Nm

He did not give any choice on remap. It seems it is a one for all. Just remember that I also replaced the MAF sensor which apparently made a huge difference so not sure if the before figures were after remap before MAF or after MAF and before remap. In any case the final figures is where we ended up. He did show me the 3 results seperately ehen I picked it up but I cant recall what he printed for me.

The more I drive it the better I feel about the experience, but towing my big load up a long hill will be the real test.

Thanks for that info Cats. I have been considering the remap for some time now. He told me that on my Gen 4.1 with the exhaust I fitted I would get about 150 kw which would equate to about 120 at the wheels. Seeing your results, I believe he was a bit optmistic saying that and / or underestimated just how detuned these Gen 4.1's are.

I would love to find the actual reason for them detuning / torque restricting this model. I got quite excited when the idea of service intervals only struck me recently. They moved from 7.5k km on Gen3 to 10k km on Gen 4.1 and having personally been involved in that (embaressing that I only clicked recently), I thought that was the reason (that is partly how we got the Toyota 2L to 10k km) - but it appears not so. So the mystery continues (Concerns for the Jatco transmission ???, improving fuel consumption ???(made it worse!!!!), to increase the "wow factor" of the 140 kw motor???, etc, etc) .

I bought a 2008 LWB Pajero (odo 192k km) about six weeks ago, and is also unhappy about the consumption and performance if I compare to my dad's 2003 SWB. I only got 6,5km/l on the last tank (town driving), and I do not have a heavy foot. I stumbled upon this thread, in my search to decide what to do. I must thank you for all your effort! From what I read, I think I should take my Pajero to Arnold/Mitsu Tech for a de-cat, EGR block and a software update / remap. It is an expensive exercise, but I'm currently not feeling good about my purchase... Hopefully this will make the difference, and get me excited/proud to be a Pajero owner.

Do you think I should change the whole exhaust before doing the software update? Or will the de-cat be sufficient?

I will post my "after" here. Hoping for a huge improvement

I would do the software update first then see what happens. Process of elimination and a cost saving....

I would not change the exhaust on the 3.2 Did. If you decat it, it is already a bit more noisy. Just decat as that will already let it flow a lot better.

An improvement yes, but very slight to moderate. A "huge" improvement unfortunately not. Been, there, tried all the logical points, ie no "huge" improvement.

Hi Avontier -

I've found that town driving is always hit and miss on consumption so its hard to compare apples with apples.

What consumption do you get @ 110 - 120 kph on a relatively flat road - ie. approx 2000 rpm for an extended period?

In my 2008 GLX 3.2 I usually get 10L / 100 on average when cruising.
