Hi,

All systems GO, but I will use the petrol Pajero like last year.

Not both as we do not want to slit the family...lol

Hello Roelf
Have you planned the route as yet?

Martin,

Yes,the route is pretty much fixed. It will be similar to last year, except for the down the "mountain section". We will drop down a different route.

I will however streamline the Sheba section to allow for more time and a different route on top of the mountain. We will get to a few more historical sites and I think have more time for lunch in a nicer spot.

I'll be visiting three options today for the evening get-together. Diggers Retreat is still an option (Mark is more than happy to accommodate us), but he has 70 Venda University students staying there for the week and I think it could get crowded.

I'll give feedback (and maybe ask for opinions) after my visits today.

Cheers
Roelf

Here is a preliminary format for the weekend:
1)Everybody make their way to Barberton on the Friday and arrange their own accommodation.
2)We meet at 9am Saturday morning (this allows time for some last minute shopping and fuel). I think a logical place will be in the parking area outside the town museum.
3)Each vehicle must be provisioned for a full day's travel. The coolerbox and picnic basket must be full. Please also bring chairs with for a comfortable lunch break on the mountain.
4)That evening is a get-together for everybody. It is a private spot, on private property, on the banks of the Suidkaap River.
The spot is about 7km outside Barberton.
We will each have to be self-sufficient in terms of chairs, table, braaigrid, crockery and cutlery.
I will arrange for firewood and a chemical toilet to be placed on the site.
We will not be directly at our vehicles, so any lights you wish to use will have to be portable.
We will in all probability proceed to the site directly from the mountain, so all your stuff should ideally be in your car at the start of the day, but nothing prevents you from going to your accom first to freshen-up and get stuff together. The "old hands" will know that there is no drill seargent on the trip. We are all adults with a free will.

I'll get some Google Earth images posted showing the meeting place, dots on the route and the braai spot for the evening.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it this year. My folks are up here from the coast that time.

The only two real camping opportunities would be Diggers Retreat and Barberton Caravan Park.

We will be staying at Fountain Baths.

We will only get there lateish Friday afternoon/night so decided against the camping option.
