Gen 3 fuel and temp display issue + CD has stopped working

Sun Jun 13, 2010 12:07 pm

Hi,

My temp and fuel display is a little eratic, and is one of the first Gen 3's with just the basic lcd screen. The screen display works in some places and not in others, probably due to dry joints, but now my CD player has stopped working too. I am thinking from the fine dust in Namibia which has crept in there and decided to stay for a while.

Has anyone changed the radio on the Gen3 as the LCD screen is controlled by the OEM radio so will this still work, at least the display, will it come on, and just be on the last selection the radio made. Can this be replaced with the newer Gen 3 display and perhaps radio/CD player. We use the iPod alot and find using the transmitter (griffen type) also brings in some distortion into the process, so would like to link ipod and if possile USB direct into radio.

Anyone tried this yet.

Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

David

David,
When I had an early model DiD, I enquired from the dealers if the newer display could be fitted (when they came on the market) and they said "no, wrong harness". Maybe they meant "no, we are too lazy". I never followed-up, but ended up by buying a 2003 with the new display.

When the 2003 was about two years old and still under warranty, the CD (6 x changer) also stopped working . The technician at the dealer knew immediately where to stick his hand to plug the little wire in that had come loose.

I think the time has come to take your radio out and open a few panels to clean and check the connections in that area.
Good luck

Thanks Roelf,

Makes sense the road to Purros, Nam was quite bad, and this problem started shortly thereafter (CD issue at least).

Thanks

Unfortunately those grey LCD screens ALL get dry joints after a while. I have yet to see a Pajero of 2000-2003 year that does not have the same problem, it is on my bug list to fix one way or another somewhere in the distant future.

I have replaced my Mitsu radio with a Pioneer head unit with plug in for Ipod located in cubbyhole. Works like a charm. The only thing that you loose on the lcd display is the radio stations, but this is now shown on the radio itself, so not a big issue.

Thanks for the responses, the new radio and speakers are soon to be fitted to include the i-pod and USB connections with bluetooth built into the radio, will pull out the LCD at some stage and check it out. At least it amuses playing with the LCD when not offroad :D
