Gen 3 Compass won't calibrate

Fri Aug 20, 2010 7:37 pm

hi Guys, My Paj Gen 3 compass went on the blink after a flat battery. I have reset everything and driven around in slow circles until I felt sick but nothing happens, The compass calibration does not move on to the next step. Currently I can see the compass but it is stationary. Any ideas?

Presumably you did select the Set button prior to driving around in circles?

If you did, maybe disconnect your battery positive terminal and attempt to recalibrate

Hope this helps.

BTW. Maybe just drop in at the Stealers and ask the service chaps to assist?

My bud bought a Pajero recently (2003 DiD) and I set the compas here (up-country) and drove it down to the coast to him. There we replaced the battery and, you guessed it, didn't want to calibrate. We took a trip to Baviaans and Die Hel and at altitude I recommended that we try again (while driving in a winding pass). The compass calibrated almost immediately. All I can think is that the 0m altitude had something to do with the compass not setting.

Thanks guys. I will try disconnecting the battery for a while. The stealers rekon I need a new compass unit! it worked fine until the battery went flat.

Wilddog,
How did your compass story end?

I ended up adjusting (calibrating) the compass by 20 degrees. I got the instructions from another thread on the Paj forum. I had to disconnect the battery for a while before I started. All good now. Thanks for the help.

My Gen 2 has gone out of calibration twice recently - each time after the GPS was close to it. One must look out not to have magnetic fields too close...

Fortunately the calibration routine sorted that out too!
