Dag almal,

Re: Gen3 4x4 liggies..
is it a manual or automatic?
is the 4x4 shifter the newer electronic style or the mechanical gear lever like the gen2's?

It's a manual. It's got a lever for the selection, but haven't checked if it is linked mechanically.

Re: Gen3 4x4 liggies..
right.
it is electronically controlled via vacuum actuators. The system is usually robust and the fault usually lie with a broken wire or a perished/loose vacuum pipe.
access to the gearbox is very limited but try and get underneath and try to follow all the wires and vacuum pipes to see if there is something obviously wrong.
I suspect the sensor for that light is number 3 - this is a gen2 box but may be in similar location

Re: Gen3 4x4 liggies..
A quick way to determine the problem:
- Use a paperclip to short out pin 1 & 4 of the MUT-II plug under the dashboard.
-Turn the ignition to On.
-The orange light will start flashing error codes. Long flashes are 10s, short flashes are 1s.
You might see something like three long ones followed by three short ones: 33. Keep in mind there can be more than one error code, so watch the flashing carefully. Once you have error codes, post them here. You can also look them up in the workshop manual if you have one.
The process above is documented in the workshop manual, so you won't blow up your car if you do it. Check section 00-8 if you have one.

Thanks. This will give me a good starting point. Don't have a workshop manual yet, but want to get one. Will post if I find something.

Re: Gen3 4x4 liggies..
Ok, eventually had some time over the weekend to have a look at what is going on. Found two vacuum pipes that were a problem, the one was off and the other missing. Did the tests on the Transfer ECU like they said in the manual, PROBLEMS!!! All the signals going to the ECU looks fine but the signals that are suppose to go from the ECU to the solenoids etc. don't change at all. Tried everything, looks like it is a gonner.
Can someone maybe help me with some info on where to get a secondhand one or will it be better to go to the stealers with this one?
Thanks for your help so far!
