What was your first DIY fix?

I did some maintenance on my dad's pajero and fixed some stuff on a mini I had, but my first real DIY fix was with my Jetta.
I had to replace the radiator fan motor that burnt out. Pretty big job considering you couldn't have taken it out from inside the engine bay. You had to pull the front end and then pull it out between it's housing and the radiator as a single motor + fan unit.

Nothing to brag about but for a non mechanic it was a big job for me.
I replaced the clutch on my 626 mazda. Man I battled but got it done not without help though from a lot of _what shall I call them_ friends or aspiring mechanics with lots of -no that way -this way and so on but left me in the end to figure it out myself.

My very very first DIY was fixing my mom's washing machine (I was 6, and I watched the technician the first time around - when it broke again, I fixed it.
My first real DIY on a car was as "handlanger" when my friend helped me overhaul the top of my Alfa GT Junior (in the seventies). Does handlanger count?

My first DIY fix was on my Honda MBX50. Lots of tinkering and happy memories.
Mostly changing sprockets, chains, slight modifications, etc.

engine overhaul (supervised by ex-girlfriedn's dad) of my 1966 renault R10 1100cc engine. Needed to replace rings etc.
My brothe rand I ended up having identical old R10's and we got really good/quick at whipping the engines out and stripping them down and doing any quick fixes they needed
the good old days of being a poor student...but with more free time on my hands!

Eish this takes me back a looong time, I was in st4 an after watching my dad and uncle I tackled an oil change and plugs and points service on a friend's mom's escort 1300. Learned the lesson of keeping the plug spanner straight as I broke one of the new plugs, did a carb tune up and timing adjust as well. Sort of helps if you have an uncle that is a mechanic while you and the cousin were spanner boy
