Zexel vrz eprom

Goodmorning,
Bought some time ago a pajero 3.2 with a pump problem, with unknow history. ( 2002 version with the famous vrz )
Repaired the pump from the mechanical part, was missing some parts also, changed the low pressure side, timing piston valve, the small metal piece on the advance ring, the 2 metal / bronze bushings. small slider inside the timerpiston. the 2 speedsensors on the pump ( original types ) all the joints.
The engine cranks , and starts difficult, not idling, from about 1500 to 4000 it responds on the throttle, no smoke.
no error lights in the dash ( eml ) but not all the faullts will be trigger a light i have seen.
But still far from ok.. i found out that connected with or without the eprom on the side of the pump the engine runs the same, also not triggering eml.
i also wondering why zexel this small thing not includes into the main ecu, very poor design with all the cables and sensors..
Anyone know what this eprom is used for ? timing advance? a new one is not so expensive around 100 euro, but before change i have to know if its faulty. ( i like to repair instead changing parts till the problem is solved )
