As my wife is in Germany since last Monday, I could visit a few places in town I have already long on my list - but she never wanted to join - so we didn't do it together.
1. Apartheid Museum - I spend almost 4 hours in there and won't comment. For a foreigner like me quite impressive....
2. Constitution Hill, Old Fort and female prison...nice to walk around, but not in a good shape for all the tourists coming in 2 months...
3. Mining worker memorial - you need to drive slowly not to overlook it in CBD....
4. A poor beetle...on the way back home...

JHB and surrounds has a lot too offer. But, as you say, some parts need to be maintained.
Arent the JHB sunsets some of the best
(much nicer than in old Germany)
