OSRAM Nightbreakers

Wed Sep 16, 2009 3:58 pm

To those of you that have not yet tried the Osram Nightbreaker globe upgrades, here are some of my thoughts.

They really do make a whiter light and I am very happy with the better light, without having to change more than just the globe.
They have the same wattage etc as the standard globe so should also not develop more heat (High heat has been mentioned in the past to make the carbon headlamp covers develop hairline cracks with some higher wattage/illegal globe upgrades on GEN 3 Pajero's)
They have a small picture on the side of the box indicating that they have a shorter lifespan than standard globes. This is definately the case, as mine did not last as long as expected.

In the end still a worthy light upgrade with minimal cost, just remember to keep the old globes as backup.

As luck would have it the one globe that recently went on my vehicle was on the side where the Safari snorkel goes behind the headlamp. This then leads to a removal of the grill and whole headlamp to get to the globe and the whole process in reverse for the refit. Not something I want to do too often! :(

I was one of the first to fit nightbreakers in SA when I got mine as a "demo" set from Diesel electric. Awesome light and still going strong.

I must agree with you Cats those Nightbreakers are the best thing since sliced bread. I have "downgraded" having had 120w lamps in my Pajero and the difference was amazing. I went so far as to put a lux meter a 100m and compared the reading, the nightbreaker was the clear winner.

Diesel Electric should stock them, otherwise Midas.

I concur with what's been said here, they work very well!

I have also fitted the nightbreakers on my Gen 3 and it's fantastic.

However, I would like to clean the inside of my lenses/covers, it seems like it has a white type of dirt/residue inside as I have cleaned the outside properly and still remains. Is it possible to take of the lenses without taking out the light fitting totally? Does it just clip off?

Nope, sealed unit unfortunately. Don't put any water in there either as it will take ages to dry and might also corrode the reflective surfaces.
